Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin has warned youths not to be fooled by groups who sensationalised and politicised issues relating to religion, race relations, the Internal Security Act (ISA) and freedom of speech.

“Of late, there are several issues that have been sensationalised and politicised, where the truth can be disputed.

NONE “The issues related to religion, ISA detainees, race relations, freedom of speech and human rights have been kindled and indirectly can create instability and disturb the peace of the country,” he said.

There are groups that champion these ideologies because it “sounds good” but it could lead to public hatred, he said.

“Don’t associate with groups that have their own interest although they bring ideologies that sound good.

“Young leaders, do not allow yourselves to be used by these irresponsible people.

"Do not be deceived by the struggle in which the truth is manipulated,” said Muhyiddin (BN-Pagoh) ( left ), who is also the Education Minister.

Build solutions, suggests DPM

Instead, he proposed to the student delegates from 21 public universities participating in the Young Leaders Seminar in Parliament today, to utilise their energy and education to generate solutions to solve controversial issues and aim for a developed nation.

The seminar, themed ‘Young Leaders of Malaysia - Build the Feeling of Togetherness’, was focussed on raising students’ awareness on the country’s fundamentals and Parliament, which works as the mainframe that defends democracy.

BN lost its customary two thirds parliamentary majority in the 2008 general election and it was perceived that majority of young voters preferred the opposition.

Muhyiddin noted that there are 11.9 million youths aged 15 to 40 and he said the government’s recognition to this age group is crucial to ensure that they positively contribute to the country and become the core of development.
