Outgoing PKR deputy president Syed Husin Ali today served a scathing reprimand on both the party’s Youth and Wanita wings for failing to address their respective weaknesses.

NONE “I have always said that the Wanita have more discipline than the Youth. But it appears Wanita is not inclusive enough.

“The leadership in Wanita does not reflect the composition of the women members both in terms of race and organisational background,” he said.

In his officiation speech for the national congress of both wings, that is also his parting speech, Syed Husin also lashed out at the youth wing for being weak and beset by factionalism.

"There are a lot of youth branches which are so lifeless and it looks like they are not moving. There also looks to be elements of factionalism which are even worse than those in Wanita.

NONE “This has to be handled by constant communication and discussions," said the normally soft spoken Syed Husin, who had made it an annual practice to reprimand both wings.

The party's disciplinarian also reminded that the wing members are still a part of the party, and that they must not act alone like "parties within a party".

However, later in a press conference, Syed Husin softened his tone and said he was merely advising the wings as a party elder.

‘Traitors hanging themselves’

Syed Husin’s strongest criticism was saved for the "party traitors" and "indisciplined leaders", in an obvious reference to the former PKR Federal Territories chairperson Zaid Ibrahim.

NONE "Discipline must be enforced... Criticising or even rubbishing the party through the media should be considered a serious breach of discipline," he said.

"(With) all the accusations and charges hurled outside the party channels and processes, especially through enemy media, whether willingly or not, these leaders just become instruments to our rivals in tarnishing the party image.

"Thank God, with their own actions, the enemies within slowly reveal themselves. Sooner or later, they will just hang themselves with their own ropes," he said.

"We have to unite again. Those who want to leave, leave. Those who want to hang themselves, let them die. But if you hang yourself, make sure that you really die, lest you suffer your entire life," he said.

Not mincing his words, Syed Husin also advised the newly elected leaders to be responsible in carrying out party work.

"Meetings and party activities must be attended. They have to work in a team and shoulder the responsibility together. There is no excuse to act alone and on impulse, especially outside the party.

“What more it is done without boundaries and control, disrespecting the process of discourse," he said.
