The National Union of Bank Employees (NUBE) has urged all corporations in Malaysia to look into income gap seriously.

j solomon nube sec gen 290806 calm In a statement today, NUBE general secretary J Solomon said the narrowing of income gap is an imperative towards the sustainability of economic development which has to tie in to social development of the people of a country.

"The message by Prime Minister Najib Razak that wealth should be equitably distributed is appropriately timed and has been advocated by NUBE.

"We are seeing a growing income divide and this is something which is not sustainable as society will revolt," he said.

He said corporate organisations should play a role as good corporate citizens in ensuring that their employees are paid equitably and the difference in salaries and bonuses are not too large between the different categories of employment.

"The difference in bonuses and basic salaries between the highly paid and the lower income group in the financial services industry is huge and immoral.

"It is unsustainable and does not take into account the contribution of the lower income group to the development and progress of the Malaysian economy," Solomon said.
