N Tharmendran, a former sergeant of the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF), is being treated well under military remand at the Cantonment Camp in Jalan Ipoh here, said Sukaham.

Suhakam commissioner Detta Samen said Tharmendran, 42, when met in person at the camp, admitted that he was being well looked after by RMAF personnel.

 "Tharmendran said he has not been subjected to abuse and when we checked, no injury marks were found on him," he told reporters after visiting Tharmendran at the camp here today.

As such, Samen dismissed allegations hurled by certain quarters that Tharmendran had been assaulted and injured while being held at the camp.

According to him, Suhakam made the visit to verify for itself if the allegations had any basis.

On Jan 6, Tharmendran had pleaded not guilty at the Petaling Jaya Sessions Court when charged with abetting senior airman Mohamad Shukri Mohamad Yusop in the theft of two RMAF F5 jet engines from the Sungai Besi air base’s Material Processing Shed.

He was released on RM50,000 bail on Sept 6 but was re-arrested by military police on Nov 25 on grounds that he had gone AWOL (absent without official leave).
