Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein has denied that the criminal justice system is 'topsy-turvy'.

He was refuting an allegation by DAP’s Ipoh Timor MP Lim Kit Siang who had cited claims by former KL CID chief Mat Zain Ismail in a recent open letter .

"It is NONE not topsy-turvy ... as you alleged," Hishammuddin said in a written parliamentary reply to Lim (left) dated Dec 2.

Lim had raised the matter during recent debate on the Home Ministry's budget allocation.

Hishammuddin said the principle of separation of powers is clear - the police are investigators, the attorney-general prosecutes and the courts hear cases - and that this system is working well.

There is no glitch in the system, he maintained, as the “three bodies still play their part so as to avoid any disruption in the criminal justice system".

‘Black-eye’ probe over

The minister denied that the events surrounding the investigation of the infamous 'black-eye' incident involving Anwar Ibrahim and former police chief Abdul Rahim Noor.

NONE "There is no evidence to show that there was false testimony in the investigation," stressed Hishammuddin (right) .

Abdul Rahim has already been investigated, tried, convicted and punished for his transgression in the matter, and the police force believes that the charge against him was in line with the evidence it gathered, he said.

Hishammuddin also denied claims that police reports have been lodged about Mat Zain’s open letter.

"The contents of the letter have no elements of sedition, criminal threats or pornography to enable the police to investigate it," he added.
