Public knowing the existence of the Shanghai oranges should report to the nearest district health offices, said a ministry statement here today.
Media reports said Shanghai authorities had ordered that sale of the oranges be stopped after consumers suffered rashes after touching the oranges.
Rule 21 and Rule 225 (2) and (3) of Food Regulation 1985 only approved seven fruit colourings to facilitate grading.
"Food grade wax can be used to clean the fruits meant for sale," said the statement.
Public can get information on safety control and food quality via the ministry website .
