Azmin promises 'full autonomy' for Sarawak

Rolls-Royce: I think the issue on Sarawak and Sabah has been skewed towards the wrong direction. It is not autonomy per se. The two states as I see today are being governed by their own "leaders" although these leaders are propped up by Putrajaya.

The best hope for the people of Sarawak and Sabah is to support a national coalition that can provide an alternative to the two states - in terms of the management of resources, fighting corruption, development, etc.

The local mosquito parties from these two states are a waste of time. They are too insignificant and too corrupted to be able to stand up to the federal government. All Malaysians must see the emergence of a two-party system and we shall select the coalition to be in Putrajaya based on their policies and governance.

Please take note, Sabah Umno is not for Sabah. Sabah Umno is for Umno Peninsula Malaysia.

Truth: PKR will promise anything just to get power, including disintegration of Malaysia. Full autonomy to Sarawak and Sabah? Why not grant full autonomy to other states as well? We are all Malaysians, not Sarawakians and Penangites and what not. Wake up, Malaysians and rejects any decision to further split our beloved country.

KSN: First honour the promises as contained in the Malaysia Agreement when Sabah and Sarawak consented to join Malaysia. What if Kelantan also wants autonomy? There was such a talk some time ago, if I remember correctly.

Is Azmin Ali talking on behalf of Pakatan Rakyat? If so, he is speaking out of turn. There are more senior, experienced and knowledgeable leaders among them. He is just the vice-president of PKR 'elected' in, as some say, by fraud. Yet, he is already talking and boasting.

Putrajaya is still a long way off, but he is already boasting as though he will be the PM. Has Pakatan top guns agreed to this autonomy offer to Sarawak by Azmin? Do not jump the gun and make promises you are in no position to deliver. A little premature, don't you think, Azmin?

First focus on restoring PKR's credibility which has been damaged by your election.

The BN-led government has not honoured the agreements. With hindsight, Singapore did the right thing by leaving Malaysia. Brunei was even smarter by pulling out the last minute.

Habib RAK: PKR is responding to the demands of all Sarawakians. Respecting the terms of the 1963 18-points Agreement is an absolute must. Perhaps Sarawak PKR chief Baru Bian has a better way to negotiate with Anwar Ibrahim or Azmin for accepting the Sarawak peoples' demand?

I hope that this will somehow placate Raja Petra Kamarudin, Haris Ibrahim, Jeffery Kitingan and Zaid Ibrahim to re-assess their position, too.

Changeagent: "I, Azmin, will defend Sarawak and be an advocate of the peoples of Sarawak".

With all due respect, Azmin Ali, who are you to defend Sarawak? Are you there to promote the PKR party or are you trying to make yourself feel important now that you are the deputy president? Remember, there is no 'I' in team.

While I may not be a fan of Azmin, but comparing him with Abdul Taib Mahmud or Dr Mohd Khir Toyo is a different kettle of fish altogether. Azmin may have serious character flaws, but still he is no comparison to Taib and Khir Toyo, who between themselves have plundered and amassed billions of ringgit in assets. The proof is in the pudding - just look at their personal lifestyles, houses and wide business interests.

And worst of all, the whole BN machinery is aware of this but decide to keep an eye closed. If dirty politics make your blood boil, then do the right thing - if you condemn Azmin and Anwar, then make sure you also do the same for Taib and Khir Toyo, who surely are guilty of far more serious crimes.

Anonymous: Yes, Sarawak and Sabah, together with Malaya and Singapore formed the new nation Malaysia. Separate agreements were made with each of the components - Sarawak, Sabah, Singapore.

After two years, Singapore left Malaysia and became an independent state. Its ‘Malaysian Malaysia' clarion call, which is akin to Najib's 1Malaysia slogan, was unpalatable to Umno.

Now, this idea, shouted 40-odd years ago, has come one full circle to haunt Umno leaders. An agreement is an agreement and must be honoured. Only honourable gentlemen will honour it. That is how a contract works.

If parties to an agreement do not honour it, then what is an agreement for? We might as well tear it up and tell the whole world: ‘I am not a gentleman and I am not going to honour it.'

Ibrahim Ali: I'm back, alive and kicking

Mat Bond: Ibrahim Ali wants to set up a May 13 museum so that the truth can be revealed as to who started the May 13 riots. What good can the truth do? It will only bring up deep-rooted hatred among the races. Is that what we want?

For the sake of unity and for us to progress as a nation, we should move forward and forget the past. Furthermore, we could easily guess what the truth is since it is coming from Perkasa man.

Albert: Frankly, the alternative media, including Malaysiakini , should not be enthusiastic in giving Ibrahim Ali any more coverage. Ibrahim in many of the rakyat's minds is a political nobody - as can be seen by his records with Umno and PAS - without the support of Dr Mahathir Mohamad. I do not for a minute think that he knows he is just a pawn in Mahathir's chess game.

Alan Goh: Ibrahim Ali, God spared your life to give you a second chance. Use it well to spread goodwill, peace and love amongst neighbours and, above all, racial unity. Do not be influenced further by that former PM, whose brand of politics have divided the races along racial line.

When his time of reckoning arrives, God will make him account for every misdemeanour he committed during his 22-year corrupted tenure as PM.
