Rights panel wants Anwar shelved for six months

Pemerhati: The parliamentary rights and privileges committee is controlled by BN. If it suspends Anwar Ibrahim on the Apco Worldwide issue without even hearing what he has to say on the matter, it would strongly indicate that BN is terrified of what Anwar is likely to reveal about the matter.

Hence, it would not be unreasonable to conclude that what Anwar said on the Apco matter is true and BN is up to its usual despicable behaviour of suppressing the truth and repeatedly punishing Anwar on trumped-up and false allegations.

Anonymous: Kinabatangan MP Bung Mokhtar Radin said lewd stuff about the women folk a couple of years ago; Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said that non-Malays are not patriotic enough, and a lot of other Umno MPs have said worse things before.

How come they were not referred to the rights and privileges committee?

Change agent: So what if Anwar said that 1Malaysia is copied from One Israel? Is it really serious enough to warrant a suspension by Parliament's rights and privileges committee? So many worse things have been said by BN parliamentarians without any reprimand.

How about the certain person who called on BN to "defend Putrajaya at all costs"? Shouldn't he be punished for implying that he does not intend to hand over power even if BN loses? Are we, the public supposed to think that it is okay to mock democracy, but it is not okay to knock the empty and meaningless '1Malaysia' slogan?

Jefferson76: A suspension could turn out to be a benefit for Anwar. If he doesn't need to attend Parliament, he's got more time to plan for the elections. A similar thing happened when they held elections last time before he could run for office. It allowed him plenty of time to criss-cross the peninsula to speak at ceramah.

Chipmunk: There are two sets of constitution in Malaysia: one is the original federal constitution following the Reid Commission report. The other is the unofficial famous Umno unwritten constitution which is widely practised now in the kangaroo courts and the august House. Democracy practised here is what Umno practices. It's a sad thing but a well-known fact.

Petestop: It is unfortunate that our Parliament is not mature enough for them to simply stop abusing their majority. Two can play the same when the table is turned. With all these bullying, do you think it is "rakyat didahulukan"? The rakyat voted either BN, Pakatan or whoever, and all of them have a right to have their voice heard through their representatives.

P Dev Anand Pillai: It can be clearly seen here that BN just can't accept the fact that the truth is out in the open. It is difficult to cheat the ‘kampong' folks now. They Internet, too. They know what WikiLeaks is all about. So when their masks have been removed, these BN representatives see no other way than to throw what they can on Anwar.

The mistake lies with Dr Mahathir Mohamad - he picked Anwar for his own political survival in the early 1980s knowing very well that this guy had guts. So whatever you put before him, he will find a way out. Six months' suspension will do him a world of good. He can start his campaign earlier.

Speaker orders Karpal Singh out of Dewan

SusahKes Now we know why the entire governing apparatus of this country must be overhauled. House speaker Pandikar Amin Mulia is acting no less than a dictator - and Muhyiddin Yassin wants our MPs to act first class? DPM, why don't you start with the speaker?

Then again, who am I kidding? He's Umno also, right?

Lesungbatu: This statement might be seen as racist and prejudice to some, but it is puzzling why the Dewan prefer Sabahans and Sarawakians to be the speaker. There are three of them, and all of them behave unfairly to the opposition.

The function of the House is to let both parties to debate and discuss the rakyat's needs. It's not an avenue for Umno/BN to show their powers.

Is our country really a practising democracy? Or we are not much different than Burma or Zimbabwe, perhaps? My suggestion is for the House to have an ‘independent' person to coordinate the House, not one who dictates as to who should or shouldn't be voicing out their mind.

Gen2: Goes home every day to pray five times and returns every day to Parliament to obstruct justice and cover up BN's sins.
