Prime Minister Najib Razak said today that Malaysia is a competitive nation run by competent politicians.

He said that leaders in the ruling party were capable and had formed a good partnership (with investors).

NONE "Today as a result of the partnership, we have worked with the private sector to set up the biggest solar panel manufacturing plant in the world," he said after launching AUO Sunpower Corporation Sdn Bhd in Alor Gajah.

He said the plant in Rembia here involves an investment of US$1.2 billion and will employ 4,000 people once it is fully operational.

Najib said the plant is vital as a sustainable alternative energy source.

Also present at the launch were Malacca Chief Minister Mohd Ali Rustam, Minister of Energy, Green Technology and Water Peter Chin Fah Kui and AUO Sunpower Corporation chief executive officer Tom Werner.

Najib said the generation of eletricity that depends on 52 percent natural gas, 40 percent coal and five percent hydro power is not an ideal structure for the future.

"We need to do this (use green technology) because we want to consider the future generation in whatever we do. If we don't use green technology we face a quality of life that is unhealthy and not as expected," he said.
