The Selangor government is waiting for the right time to take the water company Syabas to court to have its licence withdrawn, Mentri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim said in Shah Alam today.

He believed that the action would be taken considering that Syabas was ignoring the state government's directive to stop its Tabung Budi programme.

NONE "We are awaiting a reply from them. If they continue (with what they are doing), it would be easier for us to prove in court that they have gone against the agreement to supply water," he told reporters.

Khalid ( left ) said that Syabas had no right to collect donations through Tabung Budi from consumers who receive subsidies from the state government.

Selangor residents receive 20 cubic metres gratis from the state government worth RM11.40.

The Budi Fund that Syabas launched last Aug 24 allows residents to waive this subsidy for the company to use the money to help other residents who have no access to clean water.

Not taking over garbage management

The Selangor government today also refuted claims that a state government subsidiary company, Worldwide Holdings Sdn Bhd, will take over the contract to manage garbage disposal from Alam Flora Sdn Bhd.

Khalid said the state government was still giving the garbage disposal management contract to Alam Flora with the contract renewed every month.

"This issue is always discussed because one-third of the overall revenue of local authorities in Selangor is allocated to the supervision of garbage disposal services.

"However, until today we are still using the services of Alam Flora for this purpose," he said at a media conference after chairing the weekly State Executive Council meeting in Shah Alam today.

Khalid said this when asked to comment on a report in a local newspaper today that stated that the Selangor government would terminate the garbage disposal contract that had been given to Alam Flora since 1998 and award it to the state government subsidiary company.
