A minimum salary of RM1,200 and a cost of living allowance (Cola) of RM300 for the private sector employees are among the 12 resolutions agreed upon at the 38th delegates meeting of the Malaysian Trades Union Congress (MTUC) at the Bangunan Peladang, Petaling Jaya today.

The meeting, chaired by MTUC president Syed Shahir Syed Mohamud, among other things, also agreed on a maternity leave of 90 days on full pay for the private sector.

"The minimum salary is up to the employers to accept, but we are most hopeful that this matter (minimum salary) can be considered by employers in this country while the other resolutions will be brought to the general council meeting for further action," he said when addressing the almost 600 delegates.

However, he did not disclose when the general council meeting would be held.

At the same function, a section of the delegates also expressed their appreciation and gratitude to former MTUC secretary-general G Rajasekaran, who did not defend his seat to make way for new faces.
