and Star both led with a statement from the Selangor palace which reprimanded Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim, speaker Teng Chang Khim and two Pakatan state assemblypersons over their response to the appointment of state secretary Mohammed Khusrin Munawi.

Star’s headline was ‘Palace hits back’ while New Straits Times opted for a demure ‘Palace: MB inaccurate’.

Sinar Harian , Utusan Malaysia and Berita Harian also dedicated their front page to the Selangor palace statement.

Chinese newspapers

Sin Chew Daily , China Press and Oriental Daily News front-paged with the palace statement with Sin Chew Daily and China Press highlighting that the constitutional amendment proposed by Khalid must first obtain the sultan’s consent.

China Press also reported that an average of 60 people attempt to commit suicide each day, according to a counselling centre.

Nanyang Siang Pau led with the rebuttal by the Domestic Trade, Co-operatives and Consumerism Ministry that the supply of cooking oil is insufficient.

But deputy minister Tan Lian Hoe said production this month will be increased by 20 percent to meet the increasing demand before Chinese New Year.

New Straits Times slammed the Selangor government over its protest against Khusrin’s appointment, describing the Pakatan government as ‘dismissive of the law and listless about governing’. It said what happened in Perak is just an excuse and that Pakatan should not blame others for its failure to retain the loyalty of its assemblypersons.

Utusan Malaysia urged Khalid to stop politicising Khusrin’s appointment. It also questioned the reason for a state leadership headed by Muslim leaders to reject the appointment of someone with a background in managing Islamic affairs.

Berita Harian urged the Badminton Association of Malaysia and national badminton coach Misbun Sidek, who has just resigned, to resolve their differences for the sake of excellence in the sport.

Nanyang Siang Pau discussed the recent hike in the price of pork and called on consumers to protect their rights against unfair increases.

China Press urged the Selangor government and Public Services Commission to resolve the issues surrounding Khusrin’s appointment through negotiation and to place the public interest above politics.
