The people have been reminded not to carry with them dangerous weapons including firearms when participating in the voluntary patrol under the Rukun Tetangga (Neighbourhood Watch) scheme.

Kelantan director of the National Unity and Integration Department Abdul Hadi Salleh said it was prohibited to carry such weapons during patrol and that they were only allowed to bring along a truncheon, torchlight and whistle and don the uniform provided by the department.

"People who have the permit to carry firearms are also prohibited from bringing along their weapons during patrol," he said at a dialogue with members of the Rukun Tetangga Berlian 11 Sector in Kota Bharu last night.

Members of the People's Volunteer Corps (Rela) who take part in the patrol were also prohibited from carrying their shotguns, he said.

Abdul Hadi said 308 Rukun Tetangga sectors in Kelantan conducted the voluntary patrol and those participating in them were covered by group insurance.
