The Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry wants the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) to consider issuing licences to cooperatives so that they can be packers and suppliers of cooking oil.     

Its minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob such a a move would be beneficial to consumers.      

"Cooperatives can play a role in alleviating cooking oil shortage problems just as they did when sugar supply encountered the same," he told reporters after holding a meeting with Bera Umno leaders in Bera near Raub today.     

Ismail, who is also Bera Umno chief, was echoing the call made Angkasa deputy president Abdul Fattah Abdullah for cooperatives to be given licences for cooking oil distribution.      

Angkasa is the umbrella body for cooperatives in the country.
