Sungai Siput MP raises the ante

Titan: Cultivating mutual understanding and genuine respect is the best way to achieve enduring relations between Malaysians irrespective of their political divide. Deprivation of our nation's resources in opposition-led constituencies is a cruel disregard of human/civil rights of the rakyat.

If the BN component parties believe in justice and fair play for the rakyat, they should speak out. Where are the voices of Gerakan, MIC, MCA and the rest of the BN bandwagon? They claim they have the rakyat's interest.

The rakyat must demand their constitutional rights to these allocations. If BN continue to renege on their promises, show them the exit door in the next general elections.

KSN: The monies allocated are from public funds and taxpayers' money. All MPs and constituents should receive it without discrimination, and without prejudice. There should be no discrimination here because no party or MP wins a seat with 100 percent of the votes.

It is not right to punish opposition seats just because the majority voted for them. What about those in these seats who voted for BN? Does BN discriminate against the minority who voted opposition?

The system of spending and distribution, procedures, etc, must be the same for all, and above all transparent. That is the right and decent thing to do. If the courts have any sense of justice, it should rule in your favour, MP (Dr D Jeyakumar).

P Dev Anand Pillai: Even PAS, DAP and PKR MPs have not had the guts to put it forth and get the court make a ruling. Now the PM Najib Abdul Razak is stuck. He will have to answer your question.

Anonymous_417c: Sungai Siput MP Dr Jeyakumar has proven that he is one of the best members of parliament Malaysia has ever produced. He has so far done his duties with decorum, professionalism and hard work.

He is a people's man and has been on the ground helping Malaysians long before entering politics. The authorities are going to have a tough time getting out of this one. This conscientious MP has them by their throats.

I bet they are scraping the bottom of the barrel for technicalities to throw his case out. The best thing that they can do is to admit that they are wrong and that Jeyakumar is right. I wish him the very best in his endeavours.

I pay my taxes and dues, thus I have the right to decide the fate of my country. The country does not belong to the government of the day.

Terus: Is the BN government trying to tell the rakyat in opposition area that they are not entitled to this fund. Might as well tell the rakyat not to pay income tax or any other taxes that contribute to such funds in the first place.

Loyal Malaysian: I salute you, MP Jeyakumar. Yes, even if we have no faith in the judiciary which is a division of the Umnoputras, we must not allow the Umnoputras to walk over us. After all, we are also taxpayers and the development funds should rightly be allocated to all the constituencies, not only for BN-controlled ones.

Bernard Phillips: The people of Sungai Siput indeed have an outstanding MP to represent them. Unlike that slime ball (S Samy Vellu) he ejected, Dr Jeyakumar is not afraid to fight for his constituent's rights. And he knows how to do it as well.

How dare the BN government treat Sungai Siput people and other opposition constituencies in this manner. Are they being punished for exercising their right to vote in the man of their choice to represent them? Is this what the BN call democracy? The winner's right to cut off government funds?

We wait for the courts to decide on this matter and quickly, too.

Political talks fuel snap poll talk

Titan: If 1Malaysia is to become a reality, politicians must compete to better provide Malaysians with greater freedom and liberty instead of trying to scare-monger and promote authoritarianism.

The Mahathir era is dead and gone. We have to move forward if we do not desire to continue to be pigeonholed as a Third World country. The rule of law, justice and fair play must be internalised by everyone, especially the civil service.

The recent upheaval at the Christmas Hi-Tea Open House is a glaring example of an overzealous official of the Prime Minister's Office. The application of the Methodist Church to build a training centre on their land in Port Dickson being ding-donged is another. The application was diverted to the state security committee to be vetted. This indicates a distrust and an affront to the Christian community.

An application for planning approval to build a church at Seremban too is facing a long delay. That's 1Malaysia for you.

ACoward: No need to talk and seek others' opinions. Democracy in Umno and BN is dead.

The Umno Youth election tells everything. Khairy Jamaluddin won the Umno Youth chief post, but because he does not belonging to the right group which has Mahathir's hand behind them, he got sidelined while Mahathir's son was appointed into the cabinet.

Yet, Umno Youth dare not make even a little bit of noise.
