No furore over 'secret' PAS-Umno dinner

Pakatan leaders denied that there are any wrinkles in the delicate fabric of the opposition coalition, in particular with regard to the controversial Christmas eve ‘secret’ meeting between PAS leaders and Premier Najib Abdul Razak as well as his deputy, Muhyiddin Yassin, reportedly at a dinner called by the king.
Speculation was rife of a resurrection of the unity government agenda after word leaked out of the ‘secret’ meeting supposedly talking about Malay unity, fuelling questions of PAS’ commitment to the opposition alliance. Both Najib and Nik Aziz have kept mum over the content of their discussion.
“I have been made aware of the matter,” opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim (

He added that there is no need to delve further into the matter.
Quizzed on the issue, PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang, who was also present, said that the matter is considered closed.
“We have issued an open statement on the issue, it has been accepted, and I don’t think we need to say anything further on it,” he said, adding that they have made things clear to their coalition partners.
In his speech during the event, Hadi also reiterated the party’s stand that it will stay with Pakatan.
As for the situation in Selangor, Anwar said that the matter shall be explained to the Pakatan leadership in a meeting scheduled for Jan 13.
“YB Elizabeth Wong and Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim shall brief the Pakatan leadership about the matter in the meeting,” he said.
Sources are speculating that the meeting shall also address other outstanding issues the coalition are facing, such as further clarifications of the Christmas eve dinner, the Tenang candidate and the general election.
