PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang's supporters in his Rusila, Terengganu base allegedly assaulted a blogger who dogged him over his appearance at a Christmas eve function with top BN leaders. 

Khairul Nizam Abdul Ghani, who blogs as Aduka Taruna, claimed the incident happened near Hadi’s home on Friday, where he was briefly detained at the mosque and had his handphone seized.

He later lodged a report at the Marang police station at about 3pm.

NONE “Some seven to eight people surrounded me during the incident and I was hit from behind,” he said, adding that he also went for a check-up at a hospital after discovering a watery substance coming out from his ear.

Relating the incident, Khairul Nizam ( left ) said he went to the Rusila mosque to perform Friday prayers and tried to approach Hadi to get an explanation on the unity government issue. However, Hadi did not respond to his question and the blogger attempted to follow the PAS president to his house which is located 15 metres away.

“I had used the camera in my handphone to record my question. After that, I was surrounded and was detained in a room for a short period before being released,” he claimed.

No comment from Hadi’s man

Hadi’s political secretary Shamsuri Mokhtar refused to comment when asked by Malaysiakini about the incident.

“As Aduka and some Rusila residents have lodged police reports over the matter, it is unwise for me to comment as the matter is being investigated,” he said.

Khairul Nizam is said to be a pro-Pakatan Rakyat blogger who is strongly against the idea of a unity government. He is amongst the proponents of the “PAS Reform” campaign.

As part of this drive, he had wanted to meet and have a dialogue with Hadi and record it on video. He had earlier tried to do so during the PAS muktamar in Pengkalan Chepa, Kelantan last June, but failed.

Khairul Nizam said he was undeterred by the incident and will try to meet Hadi by organising a meeting with bloggers and Facebook users.

“We will try and gather bloggers and Facebook enthusiasts in Rusila on a date yet to be determined and will try to query the PAS president,” he said in a posting on his blog.

He was also in the spotlight when he was charged with sedition at the Seremban Sessions Court for allegedly insulting the late Sultan of Johor.

Khairul Nizam, 30, from Pancor near Seremban, pleaded not guilty to making the posting with the intention of defaming the Johor sultanate and its people.

He allegedly made the posting sometime between 7.25pm and 9.05pm on Jan 22, last year.
