Umno Information chief Ahmad Maslan said today a wind of change was drawing Chinese voters in the Tenang state constituency to BN, and would ensure victory for the coalition in the by-election on Jan 30.

He said the chances were bright for the BN to secure more than the 5,500 votes it had secured for the seat in the general election in 2004.

azlan "From the reports coming in from the MCA heads of polling districts and branches, there is a swing among the Chinese community to support the BN compared to the general election in 2008," he said after a visit to Kampung Baru in Labis.

 

In 2008, the BN won the seat with a majority of 2,492 votes but lost in the three polling districts where there was a large number of Chinese voters.

The by-election has been necessitated by the death of the assemblyman, Sulaiman Taha of the BN, on Dec 17.

Meanwhile, Gua Musang MP Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah said he was confident the BN would retain the seat.

"We do not see any problem in Tenang," he told reporters after presenting aid to 50 victims of a fire on Jan 7 in Jalan Sungai Chinda in Gua Musang.
