The Penang chapter of the Malaysian Indian Muslim Congress (Kimma) which accused Komtar assemblyperson Ng Wei Aik of uttering a racial slur has softened their stance following the latter’s apology to Indian Muslims in the country for his excessive act towards a restaurant owner.

NONE Kimma Penang liason committee chairperson Farouk V Raju Mohamed ( right ) said the congress, which had recently given Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng a week’s notice to take action against Ng, has deemed the matter closed.

However, Farouk urged Lim to “take appropriate and necessary action so that other assemblypersons do not repeat the same mistake”.

When asked what action he would recommend, Farouk said he would leave it to the CM to decide on the matter.

On whether Kimma was in anyway involved with a group of Indian Muslims protestors - Suara Anak-Anak Mamak Pulau Pinang – who protested at Komtar yesterday demanding for Ng’s resignation as political secretary to CM and assemblyperson, Faruk replied in the negative.

Kimma, as an ardent supporter of Prime Minister Najib Razak’s 1Malaysia concept, would continue to defend the rights of Indian Muslims who are persecuted and those who seek for help, he added.

Restaurant owner 'not taking action'

Meanwhile, restaurant owner Syed Kassali Mohamed Aliyar who was at the press conference, denied that he would be taking action against Ng for his so-called aggressive act during a Penang municipal council raid on the night of Jan 2.

“The matter is over and I will not be taking any action against the YB,” he said.

Later today, at Ng’s service centre, Kimma founder president Badrul Zaman Mohd Zakariah ( above ) garlanded the former with flowers to mark the closure of a controversial issue that caused a rift between the state government and the local Indian Muslim community.

Ng also accepted a garland from PKR Jelutong chief Shahul Hamid Mohd Ishack, who said Ng had demonstrated one of the best behaviours of a government official in apologising for his mistake.

“I strongly advise all politicians not to repeat this issue and to continue to support this YB and the state government,” he said.

ng wei aik makes up with kimma 150111 group Badrul Zaman also warned against the persistence by any quarters in whipping up racial sentiments.

“We are all brothers. Let’s live peacefully and continue to serve the Penang state. Let’s leave all these (things) in the past,” said Badrul Zaman, who is also PKR Jelutong deputy chief.

“Sometimes politicians serve the people, but words can twist and turn (and cause trouble)...” he added.

Ng recently caused a rift between DAP and the Indian-Muslim community in Penang after leading a raid on Syed Kassali’s restaurant in Gat Lebuh Macallum, where he had allegedly told the owner and workers to “tutup kedai, balik India ”.

He was at the premises with the MPPP team following an accident earlier that night involving two vehicles which nearly killed some customers who were having their meal at the road side.
