Journalists expect Utusan to sack union chief

Swipenter: No surprises here. Everyone knows that the Utusan Melayu group incite hatred and religious intolerance because they have a role to play specifically outlined by its owner, the dominant party in the ruling BN.

Is it any wonder they can say and print anything with impunity while MCA and MIC wouldn't dare utter a word of protest. Who and what is Hata Wahari to them? They can even ‘house arrest' him for the purpose of a domestic inquiry.

Righteous: Suara Melayu, kononya. Takut-takut bayang diri. Tiap sorok ada bayang. Ni kah cara-cara membela bangsa, agama, raja-raja? Bahasa dan apa-apa yang menyesuaikan keadaan dan ‘tuannya'. Bebaskan suara rakyat. Daulat Tuanku.

Samuel Ng: On what grounds do you sack Hata? For speaking the truth? Does the National Union of Journalists have the guts to defend Hata's rights as NUJ president?

Faz: Umno and by extension Utusan Malaysia are self-centred, inward-looking group with the belief that they are the last bastion of Malay's defence against the rest of the world.

They project themselves as the last carriers of the Malay flag and with their demise (God forbid), Malay as a race is forever erased from the face of this earth. This is where the trouble start. With that, they imposed their ways on everybody, including the Malay themselves.

Their ways, instead of improving the Malays, run contrary to it. It's to keep the Malay masses under wrap of traditions, culture, religion and a host of other inventions but to the ruling elite, anything goes. So they shout about how they will fight to last drop of blood. But the foot-soldiers are to die first.

Criticism is the building blocks for future improvements but if you are not willing to listen, go bury your head in the sand and let the world pass by. Other Malays have shown the way.

Docs: It sounds like there is a mutiny developing in Utusan Malaysia with Hata's expected sacking. Is Hata acting on his own as a rogue employee of Utusan ? Or does Utusan's troubles stem from something deeper?

Anonymous_3de1: Umno's sec-gen Tengku Adnan Mansor said that Utusan had to "toe the party line".

So it is Umno's real intention is to stir up racial hatred amongst Utusan's readers against the non-Malays and non-Muslims all this while for nor taking punitive actions against Utusan's constant spewing out of venom and hatred.

"Perhaps they don't understand the 1Malaysia concept at all." So said a senior journalist from the Star .

Honestly, nobody understands the 1Malaysia concept except mainstream sycophants who pretend to understand it because they have to take care not to put sand into their rice bowl.

Rayfire: Hata's sacking will be good news because for his enlightened views, he definitely does not belong in Utusan . I am sure he will receive good offers from other independent news portals. Utusan is reserved for those deceivers, disillusioned Malays and doomsayers. The enlightened ones will at best avoid the paper.

Ferdtan: Hata Wahari is one person whom we can truly called an honest, sincere and upright journalist. He is one rare gem of a journalist, especially one coming from the most obnoxious mainstream media, Utusan Malaysia .

He knew the odds when he criticised, albeit constructively, the faults of his company as a NUJ president - when previous sackings had been made for the similar acts. In spite of such potential pitfalls, he still has the courage, so lacking in most leaders, to speak out what he thinks is right and not be cowed by the threats of punishment.

It helps when people like Hata Wahari stand up, it gives everyone hope. You have shown the path, now it is up to the rest of the journalists to walk the talk.

Ma'arip: Utusan journalist Amran Ahmad, was sacked last September after making a complaint to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) against certain procurements made by Utusan publisher, Utusan Melayu.

This is news to some, if not all of us. Any update on the investigation by MACC?

Sarawakian_3ff9: What else do you expect from Utusan ? They have been behaving like the mafia because they have the protection of Umno. They think they can get away with murder and they do. They singlehandedly create religious and racial hatred in the country with their lies with impunity, all thanks to Umno.

Anonymous_408b: I'm kind of reserve judgement on this issue, especially someone who has bred in BN's hive for so long, and one day wants out and says bad things about the hive. Next thing we know, Hata may say he never said anything bad about his hive.

We need a fighter to change Malaysia. We seek a fighter, who shows his spirit and is willing to fight all the way. Until then, let's wait and see.

The Sensibility: Dear PM, if you are really serious in promoting and implementing 1Malaysia, you should have the audacity to put your foot down on those who stir up racial issues. Utusan is one newspaper which is stirring up racial issues.
