Selangor owned Kumpulan Semesta Sdn Bhd  (KSSB) has refuted reports by media organisations accusing the company of mining sand at the  Batu Tiga exit of the New Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE).

In a statement today, KSSB said that its officers have visited the site and found that sand was removed from the Damansara river as part of flood prevention programme under the Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC).

"The contractor which is undertaking works is appointed by the federal Irrigation and Drainage Department and not KSSB as reported by newspapers and television stations.

"KSSB will only be involved if it is called in to move the sand mounds caused by the contractors that is doing the river works," read the statement.

In view of this, KSSB said that it is consulting its lawyers on possible legal action against the false accusations made against the company.

KSSB was formed following Pakatan Rakyat's takeover of the state administration to regulate sand mining activities in the state.

However, it has been accused by BN leaders of being a vehicle for sand smuggling activities.

Such accusations died off after the a joint taskforce between KSSB and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) was formed to combat illegal sand mining.
