Port Klang state seat declared vacant

Josephine: Selangor speaker Teng Chang Khim has declared the seat vacant, but he has not informed the Election Commission yet. It appears that the speaker is in no hurry to inform the EC.

It looks like the EC is stuck, much as it may want to review the validity of the vacancy, it cannot act until the speaker formally notifies it. Good strategy there, for as long as the EC is not notified, the seat remains vacant.

Adha: What if the EC says, "As long as EC is not informed by the speaker, the seat is not vacant"? You never know with these scoundrels, will we?

Geronimo: OMG, finally he (Badrul Hisham Abdullah) is out. It is like a load taken off from my shoulders, Now we can elect a diligent state assemblyperson to represent the good people of Port Klang. To Anwar Ibrahim and his team, please make sure this time, there will be no more frogs or grasshoppers from your party.

Changeagent: Instead of sending a letter of appeal to the speaker, Badrul should instead apologise to the constituents of Port Klang for failing to be a responsible representative and abusing their trust in him. Let's see if they are willing to forgive and re-elect him again.

Gg: Wasn't there another seat which was declared by the speaker vacant but the Election Commission said no (Kota Siputeh in Kedah)? Let's see what the EC will do on this.

Every Vote Counts: How I wished that once a month a MP or state assemblyperson just drop dead. In fact, I pray for that to happen. I may be evil but at least I am less evil compared to BN because many people benefited with maggi mee projects and goodies, and also a chance to vote in Pakatan Rakyat.

High Court orders release of Tharmendran

Alan Goh: Justice Su Geok Yiam, you're a fair-minded judge who dispensed justice based on law, which is something very rare in Malaysia. We hope that your replacement will measure up to the same standard as you. God bless you.

Sleekk: While the judge has ruled to release N Tharmendran, she based her decision on a technical fault of the arrest procedure rather than the fact that Tharmendran can't be held by the military police because he is now a civilian.

In fact, she ruled that the military has the right to arrest him for absent without leave. The military claimed that Tharmendran's contract has been automatically extended for another year.

They should show an acceptance letter for the contract extension with Tharmendran's signature on it. Is there such a document? Tharmendran risks being re-arrested by the military.

KJ John: The judge makes clear what every thinking person knew. Brute force and bullying has no more place under the rule of law.

Adha: It's certainly a relief for all, but the court order to release Tharmendran was based on a technicality. It doesn't say the detention was unlawful per say. The court decision was because the procedures of the arrest was not done in accordance with the law. I still feel worried for Tharmendran.

Simple Soul: Thumbs up to you, N Surendran, for being persistent in helping people who are wrongly treated. No BN lawyers will do this. Only Michael Chong seems to be the rare case.

HJ Angus: The action of the army to arrest Tharmendran was unlawful and a mockery of the role of security that the army should provide. They renewed his contract automatically? How hilarious. You can bet it was it was not for love.

Whoever ordered his detention, and I mean the officer who issued the command should be court-marshalled for such a disgraceful act of bullying a civilian.

Anonymous_3ec6: The Air Force will never automatically extend any personnel's contract... never heard of it until now. If an airman wanted to extend his service, he has to apply for it. What a bunch of jokers we have in the Air Force administration. I was in the services before, so I should know.

Lim Chong Leong: Don't forget the bigger question of harassing witnesses who potentially can expose the darker and more sinister activities of the Armed Forces then under Najib Razak and now.

Sad: Tharmendran was charged to stealing jet engines and yet the Armed Forces extended his contract for another year without his knowledge. Are the generals and the defence minister not idiots of the highest degree?

Zaid Ibrahim launches Parti Kita

Ksn: Zaid Ibrahim, best wishes to you and the new party. If what you are doing is something right for the people, for justice with principles for the benefit of all the people of Malaysia, it really does not matter whether you succeed extremely well. People will remember what you stand for by recalling why you left the Umno cabinet and why you resigned from PKR.

Speak up loud and clear on issues and policies which are wrong by suggesting alternatives, against corruption, against racism, against religious fanatics, against cronyism, abuse of power of all kinds, for the restoration of independent institutions like the AG's Chambers to be headed by competent people, the police force, the MACC, the civil service, etc.

Rayfire: It's good to know that finally Zaid's dream of heading his own party materialised. Just remember idealism is good but to implement it takes humongous effort. So now that you have established a party of your own, I do hope you could deliver a good alternative for us to consider.

So no more excuses, no more pointing finger, just realise your ideas truthfully and if you stay the course without straying, you will have our support. Please don't make the same mistakes made by other parties by accepting disgruntled members of other parties to be leaders.

Start afresh, please bring in leaders who can really deliver, preferably young bloods. No rejected leaders, please.

Md Imraz Ikhbal: Finally, Zaid has realised his true aspiration. To be the number one leader of something and head of a political party. He left PKR on a bitter note due to his frustration with not being acknowledged the way he thinks he deserves to be.

At least Akim has done so and I can only hope that it now appeases Zaid so that he can now join ranks with Pakatan Rakyat and battle the corrupt ruling regime for the betterment of the rakyat.

ACoward: One day, Zaid Ibrahim the quitter will resign from the Kita party when he faces a stern challenge from N Gobalakrishnan or M Kayveas or Salahuddin Hashim or anyone else who seeks to lead Kita.
