Political parties are today reminded not to drag the Election Commission (EC) into their campaign for the Tenang by-election.

EC deputy chairman Wan Ahmad Wan Omar said the commission had addressed all problems raised by political parties, including on phantom voters, to ensure a clean electoral roll.

Despite that, he said, some political parties continued to harp on the issue.

He said the EC had an online computer network with the National Registration Department which enabled it to update its electoral roll promptly when a voter died.

Speaking to reporters after chairing a meeting with the EC enforcement teams at the Labis District Council office in Labis today, Wan Ahmad said that so far, only six nomination forms had been bought by two parties, three sets each from the EC.

Barisan Nasional had announced Mohd Azahar Ibrahim, 39, as its candidate and PAS, Normala Sudirman, 38, for the Tenang by-election.

Wan Ahmad also said that the EC has formed three enforcement teams to monitor the Tenang by-election.

Each team, led by an EC enforcement chief, comprises a police inspector, a local government officer and a representative from each of the contesting political parties.

The team will see that the contesting parties abide by all the election regulations, he added.

On the vacancy in the Port Klang state seat declared by Selangor state assembly speaker Teng Chang Khim yesterday, he said the EC had yet to receive the notification from Teng.

Teng had declared the Port Klang seat vacant due to the failure of its incumbent assemblyman, Badrul Hisham Abdullah, to attend the state assembly sitting for six months without a valid reason.
