The Malaysians for Beng Hock NGO held a demonstration in front of the Pudu Jail in Kuala Lumpur today.

NONE The 30-strong group said they wanted Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak to widen the terms of reference of the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI), to include identifying the cause of death of Teoh, who was the political secretary of Selangor exco member, Ean Yong Hian Wah.

Their stand was that while it was good for the RCI to determine whether the MACC had breached procedures and violated human rights when interrogating Teoh, it was incomplete without investigating how Teoh died.

The group managed to collect nearly 400 signatures from passersby from 9am until 2.30pm in support of their stand.

So far, they have collected over 85,000 signatures from the public and their target is to present a memorandum of 100,000 signatures to Najib before Chinese New Year, which falls on Feb 4-5.

NONE They are also urging the public to sign the online petition to show support to the Teoh family.

Besides that, they are launching the "Change your photo, one step to truth" campaign by encouraging the public to change their Facebook profile icon with the background picture of the case.

‘Open verdict is nonsense'

Teoh had been called in as a witness by the Selangor MACC on July 15, 2009 over allegations of irregularities into the use of funds by members of the Pakatan-led state government.

He was found dead the following morning on the fifth floor landing of Plaza Masalam, Shah Alam. The Selangor MACC's office is located on the 14th floor.

Coroner Azmil Muntapha Abas declared an open verdict on Teoh's cause of death after an 18-month inquest.

DAP Bukit Bintang MP Fong Kui Lun ( right ), who also appeared at the event, said that the public is not satisfied with the open verdict of the coroner.

"Neither homicide or suicide, that is nonsense," he said, adding that the government should not prolong the issue, and to act fairly to the family.
