Bring Interlok issue to Tenang

your say 'Indian NGOs should inform all Indians from house to house about Interlok and get them to vote for Pakatan if their request to withdraw the book is not met.'

Muhyiddin lied, say Indian groups

Pemerhati: The most important thing for any politician is to get the necessary votes to be elected. So all you have to do to get any politician in power to do what you want him to do is to show that if he does not do what he has been requested to do, he is likely to lose his job.

Hence, one of the most effective ways for the Indian NGOs would be to declare that they would go on a campaign to inform all Indian Malaysians about the Interlok matter and get them to vote for Pakatan Rakyat if their request to withdraw the book is not met.

They should also go all out to campaign for Pakatan in Tenang by going from house to house of all the Indian families and informing them of this matter as well as the custodial and encounter killings of the Indians by the BN-controlled police.

If there is a massive swing of the Indian vote in the Tenang by-election, it would greatly increase the chances of the novel being withdrawn as a Malay literature textbook and a reduction in the wanton killings by the police.

Moontime: Who is telling the truth here? I'm more inclined to believe Federation of Indian NGO Associations information chief AP Raja Retinam than DPM Muhyiddin Yassin. Why in the world did Muhyiddin mention about reaching a consensus when there wasn't any in the first place?

Simple - there's a by-election soon and he couldn't afford to lose Indian votes as well as that of the Malays. So, a quick solution would be to take the middle ground, pacify both parties and declare the whole issue closed.

When will he ever learn that such high-handedness and lies will never work? Probably never. To the Tenang voters, please vote wisely because you're choosing whether to continue with lies, distortion of facts and bullying or starting afresh with respect, integrity and most importantly credibility, of which the DPM sorely lacks. And not only him but the whole of BN.

Change: Raja Retinam, go straight to Tenang with the Indian NGOs and campaign against BN and the 'Melayu first' Deputy Prime Minister and Education Minister Muhyiddin. Go and convince the 1,700 Indian voters to vote against BN. Tell them about the arrogance of BN.

Wira: Sadly, Raja Retinam, the purported ‘consensus' on the Interlok matter has been reported in every mass media whereas your denial will only be mentioned in the online media. That's why I no longer read mainstream media.

Shanu: G Palanivel, why the silence? You must do something to right this wrong. Or is it too much for you to speak up? The politics of silence will not work here for you must be seen to be doing something to satisfy the people who put you in your seat. This has gone on for too long.

My message here is for PM Najib Razak too. All the sweet talk and going to the ground is of no use unless you walk the talk. That is, if you care about winning the next general elections. This issue will certainly be an albatross round your neck.

Louisg: All Indian NGOs, please go out there in Tenang and convince the Indians to vote opposition for just this one time. This will show BN and Pakatan how important the Indian votes are to retain Putrajaya.

SusahKes: It becomes clearer as the day progresses, that 1Malaysia is no more than a political feel-good mirage of a snake oil sales pitch, that lines right up there with other snake oil statements uttered by previous Umno bosses; you know, like ‘Bersih, Cekap dan Amanah'.

Anonymous_40dd: If adding glossary and teaching guidelines could work for the Interlok issue, then any other book, including sex stories, could also be used as text in our schools.

Endorse 'withdraw Interlok' demand, MIC told

Tan Wee Lian: The ball is clearly in Umno's court. If you call yourself a responsible party which looks into the interest of all the minority groups, here is the chance to prove it. Otherwise, you are nothing more than a neighbourhood bully who gets kick out of other's misery. Prove yourself, Umno. Have you really reformed?

Docs: If we Indians did not have a useless party called MIC (I did not vote for this loser party in GE12) claiming to represent the Indians in this coalition government, this book would not have approved for standard secondary school reading.

So as the Malays saying goes "Nasi sudah menjadi bubur", what is MIC hoping to do now? The usual I suppose. Make some noise, get some attention to the issue and then when big brother Umno opens its mouth, scurry into their MIC holes like field mice.

'Beng Hock and Interlok will not derail BN target'

Loyal Malaysian: "I'm energised in fact, although I don't like to face them (by-elections) one after another," said Muhyiddin Yassin.

This is another example of the DPM's hypocrisy. No, TBH's (Teoh Beng Hock's) farcical inquest and an impotent RCI (royal commission of inquiry) to be set up by the Umnoputras will in all likelihood not derail its target in Tenang. But the truth must be spoken.

So, civil society and interested parties shall speak that truth quietly and clearly in Tenang.

Anonymous_4070: If PAS wins Tenang, it will be doomsday for the country. How can such an extremist party still exist in our country? A party that never respects other races, never respects our fellow sisters. It's such a backward party. They should have been ruling 1,000 years ago, not in this modern age.

Wira: No issues? YB DPM? Everywhere in the country, ‘barang naik' (price hikes). You mean Tenang is insulated against ‘barang naik' just because Umno is standing in a ‘buy election' there?
