Two incidents of party flags having been torched were reported to the police today in the Tenang state by-election, polling for which is on Jan 30.

A police spokesman for the by-election, Supt Abdul Aziz Ahmad, said the incidents occurred in Taman Mewah in Jalan Kenari in Labis. However, he did not reveal which party the flags belonged to.

"The incidents occurred between 9.30am and 11.30am today and were reported by two women, aged 33 and 53, who feared this could undermine security in their area," he told reporters here.

He also said that police had received reports from two Puteri Umno members, aged 34 and 36, who complained about their cars having been scratched by unidentified individuals in Taman Perumahan Awam Labis here after the nomination for the by-election yesterday.

They had reported that obscene words were scratched onto their cars parked at a house in the housing estate, he added.
