Despite MCA striving hard to intimidate Tenang Chinese voters with PAS' Islamic state agenda, PAS spiritual leader Nik Aziz Nik Mat was still well-received by Chinese residents at a DAP ceramah last night.
He was greeted by strong cheers and applause from an excited crowd of 200 when he arrived at the ceramah in front of DAP's operations centre at Bandar Labis Tengah.
In his three-minute speech, Nik Aziz wasted no time allaying fears that PAS would implement hudud law should they take over power.
"They said if we come into power, we will chop here and there... this is all nonsense. I'm really angry over it."
Earlier, the soft-spoken Kelantan Mentri Besar tried to impress the audience with the efforts by Kelantan state government to enhance understanding among the different races.
He pointed out that Malaysia's first Chinese-style mosque was built by the state government at Rantau Panjang. It had also held an exhibition centred on China's Admiral Cheng Ho, the historical figure who had made several voyages to Malacca.
He then shared his story of putting up green Chinese New Year Tanglung (lanterns), given by a Chinese in both his office and house although he did not understand the Chinese words on them.
PAS vilified
Meanwhile, at a Chinese New Year dinner at a Chinese restaurant 600 metres away from the DAP ceramah, MCA was screening a five-minute clip of Nik Aziz who in a speech, allegedly said that women without tudung deserved to be raped.
It was followed by more footage on the implementation of hudud law which included mention of hands being chopped off for certain offences

The dinner was attended by around 800 leaders and members of local Chinese associations.
MCA president Chua Soi Lek continued the Islamic state-bashing in his speech, condemning the DAP for misleading the people on the issue.
The audience were also entertained by BN candidate Azahar Ibrahim who sang a Chinese New Year song "Gong Xi Gong Xi".
Flanked by MCA leaders, he wrote in Chinese calligraphy "xin-shou-xiang-lian" (join hands and hearts) and joined in the making of the traditional Chinese dessert tang-yuan (glutinous rice ball).
