Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim said his administration will not budge from its RM9.3 billion offer to takeover water assets from companies owned by Puncak Niaga Holdings Bhd.

"I am not offering more. Because I am not doing this for the state but for the people and the less money I spend to get it, means the better price of water for the people," said Khalid at a press conference today.

Khalid said that the state had corresponded with the company, detailing the basis of their calculation of the offer price.

"We must now wait and see and give them time to consider," he said.

Khalid said this when asked on the latest development over the state's attempt to buy up the company's two subsidiaries Puncak Niaga Sdn Bhd (PNSB) and Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Syabas).

The Khalid administration is trying to buy up the two companies along with Syarikat pengeluar Air Sungai Selangor Sdn Bhd (Splash) and Konsortium Abbas Sdn Bhd (Abbas) in a bid to restructure the state's water supply.

Address 'ambiguities'

The ultimate goal is to address lopsided concession agreements awarded by the previous administrations to ensure affordable water tariffs and reduce non-revenue water.

However, PNSB and Syabas, have been resisting the offers made by the state government.

Yesterday, Puncak Niaga Holdings released a statement claiming that it has sent several correspondence to the state government seeking clarifications on the several "ambiguities" in the offer.

It claims that the latest correspondence to seek further clarifications from the state government was issued yesterday.

"Therefore, until a clear and unambiguous offer is received by PNSB and Syabas, the companies will not be able to table any proposal yet to its directors, shareholders and other stakeholders.

"A decision will only be made after all information are obtained and the proposal tabled for decision by the stakeholders mentioned above," read the statement.
