Despite earlier calls to suspend the polling for the Tenang by-election, PAS will accept the results of BN's victory, for now.

"At this point, we will accept the results," said PAS vice-president Salehuddin Ayub.

Speaking to Malaysiakini , he also added that the flash floods that had hit several areas in Tenang had decreased support for Pakatan Rakyat.

NONE "For sure, the floods have significantly affected our chances since it hit quite a lot of town areas like Ladang Labis Utara, Bandar Labis Tengah and Bandar Labis Timor," said Salehuddin, who is also the party elections director and Kubang Kerian MP.

"All these places were affected by the flood and yet there were not enough Elections Commission personnel to help voters hampered by floods," he said.

Fellow vice-president and Pokok Sena MP Mahfuz Omar was reported by Harakahdaily to have called for the polling to be suspended.

"The voters are now cut off because the roads are closed and there were also some of them who are frightened to leave their homes to vote in fear of floods in their housing areas," Mahfuz was reported to have said.

Complaints being studied

However, Salehuddin said that the party's lawyers will be investigating the more serious complaints that may have marred their chances.

NONE Referring to the complaints that rescue personnel in charge of ferrying voters were ' selective ', he said that the party may take legal action if found to be true.

"We just received reports late this evening. If true, this is a serious attempt to interfere in the polling process and we will take it to the courts," he said.

DAP national publicity secretary Tony Pua said on Twitter earlier today that the BN stronghold of the Felda settlements receive more from government agencies ferrying voters.

"Why are there no boats to ferry the voters in Labis town, which is also flooded, but Felda gets all the police and fire department boats?" he asked.

Stranded all night

While several spots in Tenang have been hit by floods, the worst hit polling centre is reported to be SMK Kamarul Ariffin, where about 100 people were still stranded until midnight, a good seven hours after polling had closed.

NONE Being the polling centre for the Bandar Labis Tengah polling district, there are a whopping 95.7 percent Chinese voters in the area, considered to be the vote bank for Pakatan.

Even with the floods, PAS had won the polling district with 851 votes against BN's 365.

Despite the loss by 3,707-vote majority to BN's Mohd Azahar Ibrahim, PAS said its candidate Normala Sudirman - fondly known as Cikgu Mala - will continue her work in Tenang.

"Cikgu Mala is a strong person and she promises to continue acting as a wakil rakyat to Tenang," said Salehuddin.

Normala, a former teacher and PAS Labis Muslimat chief, was defeated by former assistant district officer Mohd Azahar Ibrahim.
