A police inspector was charged in the Sessions Court here today with three counts of corruption involving a sum of RM4,500 two years ago.

Masrizan Bujang, 27, of Dang Wangi police headquarters here, pleaded not guilty to the charge of corruptly obtaining RM1,000 in cash from contractor Hibedul Malek Abdullah as an inducement to solve a theft case involving the him (Haibedul) at about 3.30pm on Sept 2, 2009.

He also pleaded not guilty to attempting to solicit RM2,000 in cash from Haibedul as an inducement not to proceed with actions against him for the same offence, at about 2.30pm two days later.

Masrizan also claimed trial to the third charge of corruptly agreeing to receive RM1,500 from the businessman as an inducement to solve the case, at 2.15pm on Oct 29 the same year.

He was charged with committing the three offences at 7th Floor, Dang Wangi police headquarters in Jalan Stadium, here, and faces a maximum jail sentence of 20 years and five times the amount of bribe or RM10,000, whichever is higher, if convicted.

Judge Mohamad Sekeri Mamat allowed the accused a bail of RM6,000 with one surety and ordered him to report to the nearest police station every two weeks.

Mohamad Sekeri fixed March 2 for mention. The accused posted bail.
