The number of flood victims in Pahang has increased to 2,167 people as at 8am today as compared to 2,081 recorded yesterday.

Pahang police flood operations room spokesman said Rompin still recorded the highest number of victims at 1,808 people from 236 families in five villages.

The five villages are in Bukit Serok with 1,514 victims, Kampung Rekoh (168), Kampung Kurnia Tanjung Gemok (83), Kampung Aur (37) and Kampung Lubuk Batu (six).

In Temerloh, 359 victims from 94 families in Kampung Batu Kapor Bawah, Taman Mentakab Indah, Kampung Lurah Permata and Kampung Sungai Buluh Mentakab were still taking shelter at four relief centres.

The spokesman said several roads remained closed to all vehicles including Jalan Kampung Baru Bukit Ibam, Jalan Kampung Inoi, Jalan Kampung Denai, Sungai Gayong bridge and Kampung Lubuk Batu bridge in Rompin and Tanjong Kerayong bridge in Temerloh.

In Malacca, meanwhile, a total of 724 people from 168 families were left in eight relief centres as at 8am today.

Melaka flood operation room spokesman the number of evacuees in Melaka Tengah and Alor Gajah remained as yesterday at 126 and 127 people, respectively.

However, the number of evacuees in Jasin had increased to 471 from 450 previously, he told Bernama.

He said the increase was due to the rise in sea level which caused Kesang River to be overflowed.

In Negeri Sembilan, 624 people were still taking shelter at four relief centres statewide.

As at 10am today, 601 evacuees were left in three relief centres in Tampin, while 23 others were in Jempol.

'Orange stage' warning for Sabah, S'wak

Meanwhile, the Malaysian Meteorological Department has upgraded its heavy rain advisory over Sabah and Sarawak to heavy rain warning (orange stage) effective from today.

Intermittent rain occasionally moderate occurring over Kuching, Lundu, Bau, Samarahan, Asa Jaya, Simunjan, Betong, Saratok, Sarikei, Mukah, Dalat, Matu and Daro in Sarawak; and Kudat, Kota Marudu, Pitas, Sandakan, Beluran, Kinabatangan, Tongod, Kota Belud, Ranau, Tawau and Lahad Datu in Sabah, is expected to continue until tomorrow.

This condition may result in floods over low-lying areas and along river banks, the department said in a statement today.

Meanwhile, the third category warning on strong winds and rough seas issued earlier has been downgraded to second category where strong northeasterly winds of 50-60kmph with waves up to 4.5 metres occurring over the waters of Condore, Reef North, Layang-layang and Sulu Seas are expected to continue until Sunday.

This condition of strong winds and rough seas is dangerous to all shipping and coastal activities including fishing and ferry services.
