About RM384,776 worth of equipment has been reported missing from community halls all over Selangor when BN was in control of the state before the 2008 general election, a Pakatan Rakyat state executive councillor says.

“After the general election, several irresponsible individuals/Umno and BN members in the villages had absconded with some of the equipment with the ‘knowledge’ of the then JKKK members, but unfortunately they disregarded the change in the state’s administration,” said Xavier, who is the chairperson of the state Health, Plantation Workers, Poverty and Caring Government Committee.

Feedback from seven district and land departments in the state, he said, showed that among the equipment looted from the halls were 50 to 100 plastic chairs, banquet chairs, air conditioning units, ceiling fans, wall fans and computers.

Among other things missing were meeting desks, foldable tables and public address systems as well as loudspeakers and whiteboards.

Xavier said the state’s Economic Planning Unit (Upen) had received reports on the estimated losses, which have been submitted to the executive council.

“The loss is a ‘criminal act’ against public property and the state government plans to lodge a police report in each district involved. We hope the police can take immediate action against the individuals responsible,” he added.
