Germany issued a travel warning yesterday for Kenya due to the danger of "possible terrorist attacks" and urged visitors to Malaysia to exercise extreme caution.

"The foreign ministry recommends, based o­n current indications of possible terrorist attacks in Kenya that could target foreign and tourist sites in the country, avoiding visits that are not absolutely necessary," it said in a statement.

"Travellers in Kenya are recommended to consider leaving the country."

The foreign ministry said visitors to Malaysia should be extremely vigilant, particularly in the eastern state of Sabah, due to previous attacks in the country.

The US State Department warned Wednesday of a heightened risk due to credible threats of attacks targeting Americans in all of east Africa, particularly in Kenya.

Flights suspended

Britain o­n Thursday suspended flights to and from Nairobi after Kenya's National Security Minister Chris Murungaru said intelligence reports showed attacks were being planned in the country.

The United States issued an advisory Wednesday saying it remained concerned about possible terrorist attacks in Malaysia, especially in Sabah where members of the banned Jemaah Islamiyah group, linked to Osama bin Laden's al-Qaeda network, have been active.

A US embassy spokesman in Kuala Lumpur said the warning, released two days after deadly suicide car bombings in Riyadh that killed 34 people and blamed o­n al-Qaeda, was an extension of a previous statement issued in November.
