Pahang Legislative Assembly Speaker Wan Mohamed Razali Wan Mahussin said today he had notified the Election Commission (EC) of the vacant Kerdau state seat. 

  

azlan According to Bernama , Wan Mohamed said the letter was sent at 3pm today after he had received a copy of the death certificate of the assemblyman, Zaharuddin Abu Kassim.

  

Zaharuddin died of a heart attack on Saturday. He was 64.

  

In the general election in 2008, Zaharuddin had won the seat by polling 4,135 votes to beat Hassanudin Salim of PAS who garnered 2,520 votes.

Meanwhile, the Kuala Krau Umno division will hold a special meeting tomorrow in preparation for the upcoming by-election for the Kerdau state seat.

Division head Ismail Mohamed Said said the meeting would consider the preparation of the election machinery as well as the likely candidates for the by-election.

The names of up to seven possible candidates who met the requirements would be forwarded by the division to the party's top leadership for a decision, he told Bernama.

Ismail said that though the Election Commission had yet to set a date for the by-election, the division was making early preparations to face the polls.
