Forty-three families in Kampung Tronglit, Pulau Timbang, near here today received building materials to renovate their houses as was promised them during the Batu Sapi by-election campaign last year.

The materials, comprising zinc sheets and plywood, were distributed to the families of the poor fishermen by Sekong state assemblyman Samsudin Yahya in the village.

He told reporters the aid reflected the commitment of the BN government in fulfilling its pledge to the people.

"This was our promise to the people of the island. More aid will be channelled to the people," he said.

In the by-election in November last year, Linda Tsen Thau Lin of the BN defeated Ansari Abdullah of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) and Yong Teck Lee of the Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) to become the Batu Sapi MP.
