The government will investigate a company said to be offering haj pilgrimage services in the country without going through Tabung Haji, said Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Jamil Khir Baharom.

He said this was because in this country, only the Tabung haji was given the haj quota by the Saudi Arabian government and not directly to companies operating in the country.

"Any company acting as a service providing agency must obtain approval and the haj quota from Tabung Haji before selling their services to the public, and this was under the supervision of the Tabung Haji.

"It's not a matter of obstructing or to hold a monopoly on the haj services but we have to be wary of the packages offered and fear that this would create problems to the people as they do not have the travel visa in Mecca later," he told reporters after opening a meeting of the Parent-Teacher's Association (PTA) of the SK Sungai Kering, near Yan today.

It is learnt that the company concerned is based in China and not registered under the Tabung Haji.
