Parti Bansa Dayak Sarawak(PBDS) outgoing president Leo Moggie has reiterated that he will not entertain requests from any quarter for him to reconsider stepping down as party leader.

In what is seen as a last-ditch effort by third parties to mediate in the party's leadership crisis, a top Sarawak leader is believed to have sent an emissary to see Moggie o­n May 13.

Two proposals

Malaysiakini has learnt that two proposals were presented to Moggie during the meeting.

One was for him to publicly endorse party information chief Dr James Masing ( photo ) as his successor. The other was for him to remain in his post.

According to a source, Moggie felt that it was too late for him to reverse his decision to step down, and that it would be better for the party to decide o­n his successor through a contest.

Any contest for the top post is likely to be between Masing and the party's long-time deputy president Daniel Tajem. Both have already named a running-mate each to fill the deputy president's post.

Moggie is expected in Kuching this weekend to chair the party's supreme council meeting. This will set the date for the party's triennial delegates conference (TDC).

Party officials said nearly all branches have submitted their reports and annual returns either through the headquarters or directly to the Registrar of Societies office in Kuching in preparation for the elections.

Once the documents are verified and confirmed as being in order, the branches will be able to send delegates to attend and vote at the TDC.
