The ceramah circuit in Kerdau is going to get steaming hot tonight, with the arrival of Ummi Hafilda Ali.

Ummi Hafilda, a witness in PKR de facto chief Anwar Ibrahim’s first sodomy trial in the late 1990s, is scheduled to speak at a string of ceramah around the state constituency, starting at BN’s Kg Sekoh operations centre in Rumpun Makmur.

What is interesting is that her first ceramah in Kerdau has been timed to coincide with Anwar’s ceramah at the same location, but on opposite sides of the road.

PAS’ election director for Kerdau, Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, said this was among the many tactics the BN was employing to scuttle the opposition’s campaign.

Sounding surprised by the development, he pointed out that police usually issue ceramah permits to only one party to avoid a clash of events at the same venue.

“Incidentally, this is the only place in the constituency where the campaign spots are very close to each other. In terms of the loudspeakers, that could cause some provocation, but we have our security ready.

“The police beat base is also located nearby, so we hope there will not be any untoward incident,” Tuan Ibrahim said when contacted.

Earlier, PAS had complained to the police of interference by the nearby BN campaign booth in Rumpun Makmur, where the party said a video recording of a ceramah   was blared in its direction as PAS was holding its ceramah .

However, police did not take any action, Tuan Ibrahim said.

Rumpun Makmur will be Ummi Hafilda’s first stop in Kerdau after spending the night before campaigning for BN for the Merlimau by-election in Malacca, telling voters of her involvement in events that led to Anwar’s sacking from the government in 1998.
