Selangor MB Abdul Khalid Ibrahim pressed the attorney-general Abdul Gani Patail for stern legal action against Kuang assemblyperson Abdul Shukor Idrus who openly claimed he had distributed and owned the Selangor Terkini newsletter without a permit.

NONE In a statement, Khalid stressed that the Selangor Umno information chief's action was against the the Printing Presses and Publications Act 1984, as he had distributed calendars and the Selangor Terkini newsletter with the Selangor government's official logo without permission.

"His action paints a negative image of state representatives because it implies that publications do not require any permit or permission from the Home Ministry," he said.

On Feb 17, the Selangor government had lodged a police report together with the evidence on the newsletter at the Shah Alam district police headquarters but has yet to receive an update on the matter.

Khalid also hopes that the attorney-general does not close an eye or practise favouritism in this matter as Abdul Shukor had belittled the Selangor administration, including disrespecting the Selangor Sultan as a whole.

Demand for stern legal action

"I sincerely hope that the attorney-general will act without fear or favour in this matter.

NONE "Legal action must be taken against Abdul Shukor ( in centre in photo ) , as it is required and demanded by the people and the laws of Malaysia," Khalid said.

This issue surfaced when the publication was distributed largely at an event to commemorate Prophet Muhammad's birthday in Kuang on Feb 19, organised by Abdul Shukor.

It was distributed free along with this year's calendar with  Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's portrait.

Faekah Husin, political secretary to Khalid, said this is similar to "treason" as the tabloid also displays a photograph of Selangor's Sultan Sharaffudin Idris Shah on the front page.

The state government is, however, unsure of Selangor Terkini 's publication frequency.
