Chua Soi Lek has lashed out again at DAP’s Lim Kit Siang for criticising the MCA president’s silence on the charging of two MCA leaders over the Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) scandal, saying he did not want to “interfere” with the process of the judiciary.

“It is rather preposterous and frivolous for Kit Siang to continue harping on the issue when the legal process has already taken its course and it would be contemptuous for anyone to comment on the cases concerned,” said Chua in a statement today.

NONE “By asking the MCA to state its stand on corruption charges against the leaders concerned is tantamount to interfering in the process of the judiciary system,” he said.

Lim had been making public statements calling for Chua ( right ) to make a stand on the dual arrests of Ling Liong Sik and Chan Kong Choy.

The opposition veteran also pressed Chua to question why only MCA leaders, and not Umno “personalities”, are being charged.

Lim, in a Friday statement, asked why Chua “endorsed the singling out and prosecution of the two former MCA leaders” and asking if it was “selective prosecution by the Attorney-General” and”selective investigation by the MACC”.

Chua responded with a severe tongue lashing calling Lim everything from “desperate” for political mileage to accusing him of trying to “smear” the Chinese party’s name.

Chua: ‘AG independent’

The MCA chief also vouched for the attorney-general’s independence.

“Let me remind the DAP and Kit Siang that the Attorney-General’s office is independent of its role and certainly any aspersions cast would be deemed uncalled for,” said Chua.

He said DAP’s “mud-slinging tactic” was “clearly is ultra vires of the process for a non-biased trial”.

On July 29 last year, former transport minister and former MCA president Ling Liong Sik was charged with misleading the cabinet into approving a land deal at an inflated price in connection with the development of the scandal-ridden PKFZ.

Six months later, on Feb 28, another former transport minister, Chan Kong Choy, who was also a former MCA deputy president, was slapped with three charges of cheating in a sessions court in Putrajaya in relation to the scandal.
