The women's section of the Sarawak United People's Party (SUPP) has been urged to work hard to ensure that the party would

retain the Bawang Assan, Dudong and Pelawan seats and recapture the Bukit Assek seat from the DAP in the 10th state election.

State minister of environment and local government Wong Soon Koh said the BN could not afford to lose any more seat to the

opposition.

He said he was confident that the BN would win the four state seats with the assistance of the SUPP Sibu women's section headed by Janet Lau.

"We must not allow the so-called political tsunami propagated by the opposition to happen during the coming state election," said Soon Koh at the launch of the International Women’s Day celebration organised by the Sibu SUPP Women's section last night.

In the last state election, the SUPP lost Bukit Assek, a Chinese-dominated state seat to Sarawak DAP chairperson Wong Ho Leng, who also won the Sibu parliamentary by-election last year.

Soon Koh reminded the SUPP women section that the BN was facing an uphill battle in Sibu, especially in two of the constituencies.

"The opposition has been propagating a political tsunami to happen in the state since the Sibu by-election. We must prove them wrong," he said.

He said despite its weaknesses in serving the people for the last 52 years, the SUPP should be given the mandate to ensure that it would have enough Chinese representatives in the state government.
