A 51-year-old businessman and his 46-year-old wife broke free from their kidnappers on Saturday, two days after they were abducted in front of their house in Sunway Kinrara, near Kuala Lumpur.

The couple was abducted by two men, who posed as policemen from the Shah Alam police station, as they got home from a dinner at 11.55pm last Thursday, Serdang police chief Supt Abd Razak Elias said.

He said the bogus policemen claimed the pair had to be taken to the Shah Alam police station for investigations and security screening.

As soon as the couple got into a black Perdana, they were handcuffed and blindfolded, Razak told a news conference here today.

He said the couple was relieved of their valuables and taken to a secluded hut in Kundang, Gombak, where they were beaten up and forced to give their ATM,card pin number, from which the kidnappers withdrew all RM2,000 in the account.

74-year-old traditional healer detained

Razak said the abductors also contacted an associate of the businessman and demanded a RM15,000 ransom to secure their release.

He said the couple legs were chained to concrete blocks but somehow the chain on the businessman's legs broke lose about 1pm on Saturday, enabling him to free his wife and make their getaway.

They sought help from passers-by, who took them to the Kundang police station to lodge a report.

The couple, who sustained injuries on the abdomen, were admitted to the Serdang Hospital.

Razak said the police picked up a 74-year-old traditional healer from his home, which was located near the hut where the victims were confined and are looking for his accomplices

A police report was also lodged by the couple's child following their disappearance.
