Two supporters of jailed former deputy prime minister Anwar Ibrahim were greeted by relatives and activists today as they finally walked free after two years in detention under a draconian security law.
They were greeted with hugs and shouts of "reformasi" (reform) from friends and rights activists as they exited a lower court building, and draped with garlands for their courage in opposing the government Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
Tian Chua, vice president of the opposition Keadilan and activist Hishamudin Rais were freed after three lower courts allowed bail for the three charges, including illegal assembly, filed against them.
