Local councillors in Selangor will be subjected to an evaluation quiz to determine their eligibility for reappointment, Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim said today.

The quiz would be based on the "who and what" in their respective zones of jurisdiction, he added.

"If the councillor does not know who the chairman of a residents committee is or the name of a housing estate in the particular zone, then there is a problem," he told a news conference after launching the Kuala Selangor District Council Clean Zone 2011 at Taman Chempakasari in Ijok.

 

Abdul Khalid said it had been three years since the local councillors were appointed after the PKR-DAP-PAS pact came to power in Selangor.  

"If the councillor does not know, for example, the chairman of a residents association, it only means that he or she has yet to get close to the people," he said.

He also said that the state government would begin to monitor closely the performance of the local councillors from May and June before their term of service expired at the end of the year.
