The Police Training Centre (Pulapol) clarified today that the Health Ministry, and not Pulapol, had imposed restrictions on visits by family members of police trainees receiving treatment for adenovirus infection at the Kuala Lumpur and Sungai Buloh hospitals.   

Pulapol Commandant SAC Zulkifli Mohamed said Pulapol was merely conveying the advice of the ministry to prevent the family members from contracting the disease.

"We ask the family members to extend their cooperation in the matter," he told a news conference.

Zulkifli said the trainees were allowed to contact their family members to convey the status of their health.

"However, we will consider any request for them to meet the trainees if it was totally unavoidable," he said.

He also said that the preventive measures adopted at Pulapol included maintaining cleanliness of the dining hall, trainees' hostel, staff quarters and the surroundings.

Eight doctors and 32 Health Ministry staff had been deployed to monitor the situation at Pulapol, he added.

Zulkifli said that as at 8am today, 40 trainees were in hospital, 34 at Kuala Lumpur Hospital and six at Sungai Buloh Hospital.
