A camp commandant wants police action against certain quarters who were tarnishing the image of the National Service Training Department and the Defence Ministry over the case of a Sikh trainee whose hair was allegedly snipped at a camp on Jan 16.

   

In his report at the Bandar Baharu police station in Kedah last Tuesday, Sungai Bakap National Service (NS) camp commandant Mejar Shamsudin Abdul Aziz said the quarters had also tainted the department's programmes.

   

The alleged hair snipping incident occurred at the Sungai Bakap NS camp.

   

In a statement today, the department's director-general Abdul Hadi Awang Kechil said the report was lodged on his instructions.

   

He said the alleged hair snipping incident was still being used by some quarters to taint the image of the department, its programmes and the ministry.

   

He said the case was also discussed in-depth at a ministry meeting jointly chaired by Defence Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and ministry secretary-general Ismail Ahmad.

No evidence found

   

Ahmad Zahid described the action of the quarters as serious as it could affect the government's image.

   

NONE Abdul Hadi said he had already issued several press statements on two internal investigations carried out by the Camp Level Investigation Committee and Headquarters Level Investigation Board on the alleged hair-snipping incident.

   

He said the investigations failed to detect evidence that the trainee's hair was cut and that any other trainee or NS management was involved.

   

On the evening of the alleged incident, the Sikh trainee had lodged a police report at the same police station.
