Umno and BN Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin is on a fire-fighting mission again after an outburst by Minister in Prime Minister’s Department Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz lashing out at other BN component parties.

Calling for everyone to stop picking fights, Khairy said that everyone in BN should now refrain from commenting further on Nazri’s initial statements.

“I’ve conveyed my views to (MCA Youth chief Wee Ka Siong) that for Umno Youth, we appreciate the roles played by all component parties especially MCA and MIC who are our oldest friends in BN.

NONE “I know that MCA is trying to improve their themselves and their machinery to regain the Chinese support so I hope that there won’t be any conflict between leaders in BN,” Khairy ( right ) said.

He also said that BN Youth have been “very united” and that there are no fights between them under his leadership.

“We may have our differences but we solve them behind closed doors. Cooperation between BN parties is important especially in the face of a general election and whatever misunderstandings can be solved in the spirit of friendship.

“It’s tit-for-tat because once someone says something, the other party will be forced to respond so I hope there won’t be further comments from anyone else,” he said.

Nazri had in a recent exclusive interview with Chinese-daily Nanyang Siang Pau , lashed out at MCA, saying the party has been putting the blame on Umno for its own failure to regain Chinese support.

He challenged MCA to quit BN if it was not happy, instead of “scolding Umno every day”.

“MCA is like a wife who keeps complaining to outsiders that she has been detained, sexually abused and denied food by her husband, but she refuses to divorce.”

He also said that MIC should hand over all of the six state seats allocated to the party in Perak back to BN, saying that the coalition could lose the state should MIC re-contest in those constituencies.

Ire of fellow component party leaders

The interview quickly earned the ire of the fellow component party leaders, who called him “ignorant”, “arrogant” and “ridiculous”.

“Now is not the time to be quarrelling in public like this,” said Khairy, who spoke to reporters on the sidelines of the BN Youth Job Fair at the Putra World Trade Centre, Kuala Lumpur.

The fair, which runs from Tomorrow to Sunday, is poised to be the biggest job carnival in Malaysia to date, with 40,430 jobs offered from all sectors.

With other activities lined up, the estimated half a million visitors will also be treated to a resume clinic, career talks, training sessions as well as a paperless barcode system for their CVs.
