A group of 40 people gathered in front of the Masjid Jamek in Kuala Lumpur today calling  on former Malacca chief minister Rahim Thamby Chik to step down from his current post as Risda chairperson.

NONE The group was led by PKR Youth chief  Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin ( foreground centre in picture ), who gave a short speech on the sex video featuring a man resembling PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim that was screened to selected media earlier this week by businessman Shazryl Eskay Abdullah.

“This is a form of lies being spread about Anwar. This is the second ambush carried out on him. Therefore, we urge Rahim to step down from his current post in Risda. Rahim is a liar,” he said.

NONE The group then chanted various slogans - “ Hidup, hidup Anwar Ibrahim ” (Long live Anwar Ibrahim), “ Tangkap, tangkap Rahim Thamby Chik ” (Arrest Rahim Thamby Chik), and “ Tangkap, tangkap datuk cowboy ” (Arrest the cowboy datuk).

Malaysiakini observed that the crowd then dispersed from Masjid Jamek after ten minutes.

A short while afterwards, another group of 20 people assembled in front of the Risda headquarters along Jalan Ampang, also demanding  Rahim's immediate resignation.

“ Letak, letak jawatan dengan segera ” (Step down immediately), “ Rahim producer film blue ” (Rahim, the pornographic film producer), “ Tegak, tegak keadilan, siasat, siasat, undur, undur Rahim ” (Stand for justice, investigate, step down Rahim), they chanted.

The group gathered for 15 minutes before making their way to the main entrance of Risda to hand in a memorandum demanding his resignation.

However, Risda officials denied entry to Shamsul Iskandar, PKR Youth deputy chief Khairul Anwar Ahmad Zainuddin, along with two other national exco members.

“I am not pleased with the outcome today as we were not able to hand in this memorandum to Rahim by hand,” said Shamsul Iskandar.

“Instead, we were told that we could leave the memorandum with the guard. So we have decided not to hand it (memorandum) in as there is no point,” he added.

MACC report lodged

Earlier today, Shamsul Iskandar had lodged a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission against Rahim for allegedly falsely claiming that Sungai Petani MP Johari Abdul had demanded RM100,000 as ' duit pelincir ' (grease money) as well as RM1 million for each PKR MP he would bring to watch the video.

Shamsul Iskandar also refuted Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein’s statements saying that PKR had alleged police involvement over the sex video.

“We (PKR) has never blamed the police or even said that the police had plotted this whole scenario (in recording the sex video).

“What we said was; we urge the police to investigate thoroughly on this matter, especially on Rahim and Eskay as they have violated  Section 292 of the Penal Code for publishing obscene material,” Shamsul Iskandar stressed.

"Previously, he (Rahim) resigned because he was a liability to the party," Shamsul Iskandar said, "and now he has become a liability to the country for committing a crime in distributing obscene material (sex video) to the media.

"This is a malicious slander, a political betrayal of Malaysia in seeking 'personal vengeance'," he added.

Asked what was the next course of action, he said he will get back to Malaysiakini soon.

Today, approximately 30 police personnel from the Cheras and Dang Wangi police stations were present at both venues. However, there were no reports of any arrest or untoward incidents.
