Former premier Abdullah Ahmad Badawi will be called to testify in the trial against his then transport minister Chan Kong Choy, who is facing graft charges over the scandal-ridden Port Klang Free Zone project.

Abdullah is one of 15 prosecution witness that would be called to testify against Chan, who faces charges of cheating cabinet.

NONE The case was scheduled for mention today but this process has been postponed to May 10 because Chan’s lawyers said they required more time to study 19 sets of documents submitted by the prosecution yesterday.

Chan was charged on Feb 28 with three counts of cheating , which carry a maximum sentence of five years' jail on each charge or a fine, or both.

Prior to this, Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee had recommended after an inquiry that Chan be investigated for criminal breach of trust (CBT) which is an offence that carries a maximum 20-year jail sentence, with whipping and a fine.

Chan is currently free on a RM1 million bond.

Chan was alleged to in the first charge to have duped cabinet into approving approving Kuala Dimensi Sdn Bhd (KDSB) as the turnkey developer for the PKFZ project and concealing the fact that bonds issued to raise money for the project required government backing.

The second and third charge alleged that Chan deceived cabinet into approving KDSB as the turnkey developer for additional development work for PKFZ amounting to RM854.18 million.
