Stamping out commission agents among bumiputeras, especially in the political, administration or business sectors is a challenge because they are being controlled by certain groups.

The situation is made worse as there are some bumiputeras who take shortcuts by becoming commission agents without forking out capital or taking risks, Federal Territories and Urban Well-being Minister Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin said.

"We don't want to build an economy, especially a bumiputera economy, which is based on commission agents. There are some who have no access to product capital, so they take the easy way by becoming agents," he told a news conference in Kuala Lumpur today.

Earlier, Raja Nong Chik declared open the annual general meeting of the Bumiputera Manufacturers and Services Industry Association of Malaysia.

Commenting on Teraju, the agency launched by Prime Minister Najib Razak on Feb 8 to strengthen the bumiputera development agenda, Raja Nong Chik said it was on the right track to produce true bumiputera entrepreneurs.

"Let them (entrepreneurs) be small in number, as long as they are true," he said.
